A couple of "firsts"

Despite being sick last week, we did mark a few firsts in the Posma house!!
Before Harrison got sick, he had his first try at rice cereal.
pretty pointless at this age, if I am honest, but given he sleeps so long at night I thought any extra substance I could get in his belly wouldn't hurt. :)

Bentley also caught his first bug! We walk to the mailbox together every day and this particular day there was a grasshopper (pronounced gas-popper by Bentley) on the sidewalk when we came back. I stopped and bent down to point it out.
To my total surprise he bent down and scooped it up, with his bare hands. He held onto it long enough for me to get a container for it and we kept in the house till Daddy got home so we could show him what we found!
I was proud of my little outdoorsman, but I also learned to be careful what I point out from now on. I never imagined he would just scoop it up, and I'm good with a few bugs here and there but I sure don't want any spiders or snakes! ;)

WeekInReview

Another busy week has come and gone. I am finding it hard to embrace the fact that Labor Day weekend is this weekend...

Last week Saturday we had a wedding and then were able to head out with some friends for the night.
Sunday we relaxed and caught up on some snuggles with the babes before enjoying a boat ride. It was a gorgeous afternoon/evening!
Thursday we ventured out to my parents just to get out of the house. Bentley had to come home with a picture of "gapa". He is mildly obsessed...
Thursday night we went to PF Chang's to celebrate Robert. Happy Birthday, Robert! We are so glad Jenna found such a wonderful hubby (and soon to be Daddy) in you!
Friday Bentley was feeling much better, so we headed downtown Zeeland to "feel the Zeel" and enjoy the beautiful weather. The fresh air felt amazing after being sick all week.
Harrison enjoyed some of the toys in peace while Bentley napped.
&& we headed out to the boat and walked to the beach and enjoyed some ice cream. Again, it was a perfect night. We are so blessed to be so close to such beauty that we can enjoy!
Saturday morning we packed up and headed north to celebrate our nephew Cohen's first birthday. I got ZERO pics (fail!) except this one of B on the way home.
Sunday we caught another boat ride before the rain came. We are trying to soak it up before the summer is gone. :(
This guy couldn't even keep his eyes open from all the fun the day before...
A sea plane came into Lake Mac, we missed it land but we go to see it take off!
Another busy week lies ahead...ready or not, here we go!

The week that Wasn't...

This week was due to be one of our busiest weeks this month.
Until it wasn't.

Bentley woke up Monday morning with lime green snot running out of his nose, and a low grade fever. Considering he will be two next month, I thought perfect! Two year molars. I cleared our schedule for Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday and we just laid low at home. Our nights were sleepless and naps were filled with sniffles, sneezes and coughs, making them short and even one day non existent. With a super busy weekend ahead I wanted to recover as best as we could.
*the day his nap decided to not show up*
Tuesday night rolls around and Harrison cries (which is very rare) and won't quit unless he's being held. I hold him...all night. He's up in the night to eat - again, rare for him. He wakes up Wednesday morning, with lime green snot running out of his nose, and a low grade fever. Teeth? At three months? Seems a little early... but maybe...

*big brother's idea of helping little brother get comfy cozy*
If I had more than one second in between sucking snotty noses and wiping slimy faces, I might realize that I too, was congested, coughing and sneezing. Now, I am no doctor, but something tells me I shouldn't be teething. ;)

Totally not what I had planned for this week, but what a valuable lesson I learned! God gently reminded me that HE is in control, that maybe it was time to slow down a bit. And despite this being one of the nastiest colds we have had yet, both of my boys were truly angels. Feeling as bad as I felt myself, I can't imagine how their little bodies felt. Bentley would say "thank you Mommy" after each time I sucked out his nose, or wiped his face. And if Harry wasn't sleeping, he was smiling. Still.

Again I was reminded how lucky I am to be blessed with two little princes. & i couldn't be more thankful.

It's like the song says...
"...in the middle of my little mess, I forget how big I'm blessed!"

Today is Friday. We ventured out for a bit but not without bringing along the kleenex. The snot and fevers are still very much lingering, but the whiny-ness and meltdown seems to be tapering. Hopefully come Monday (for sure) we will be on the mend!

3monthcomparison

Bentley
Harrison

[[three.months]] ::hlp

Harrison Lee -
You might seriously be the easiest baby ever.
If you're awake, you're smiling. If you're not awake and smiling, you're asleep.
Speaking of sleep, you are getting 10-12 hours at night and are taking two naps during the day...which are usually 2-3 hours a piece. Again, I am so thankful God blessed us with you, another good sleeper.
You are eating 6 ounces every 4 hours or so. We just moved you up to a size three nipple and you still flatten it when you eat. Last week you had bruises on your chin from your bottle. You love to eat, little one, but even when I am a little behind on getting a bottle ready for you, you still stay pretty calm. You had your first rice cereal last night. Im not sure how much you actually swallowed but you smiled the whole time!
You are wearing 3-6 month clothes already. I'm pretty sure you are quite a bit bigger than Bentley was at this age, but I won't know until your checkup next month. You are smiling and cooing non stop when you are awake. You are starting to take notice of toys, and even sit in your exersaucer for about 3 minutes at a time.
We are just loving watching you grow up and start to interact with us. We can't wait to see what the next month brings! :)
Love you big guy! xoxo

thirty

In January, Brandon will be 30. Considering it's winter then and both his parents and mine spend all winter in Florida, I decided to try and put together a small surprise party for him yet this summer.
So after getting together with his two best buds, their wives & moms, and my mom, we planned a party!

The guys took off in a party bus and played 18 holes of golf. I set up for the party and then it was happy hour time for the ladies, until the guys got back.
We enjoyed an amazing dinner cooked by Dan & Janelle and then played some beach volleyball and some Minute to Win It games.

Brandon was TOTALLY surprised with the whole thing, which was exactly what I had hoped for.

I get such great joy out of spoiling my husband. He is so deserving of it...and he is my greatest blessing, for sure.

Thank you to my parents, sister, my two besties, the Elenbaas', Schampers & the entire Nykerk family for helping me pull this off. I couldn't have done it without any of you! :)

&& Happy Birthday, Prince. I am so lucky to be able to call you mine and look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with you. xoxox

twenty.three[[23]]months//bip

Bentley Ivan -
You are almost two already, sweet boy!
This last month we have watched you outgrow any and all things baby and turn into an adventurous and talkative little boy.
You are starting to be mature in how you play, and the things you choose to play with. You are soaking up your environment and things you see and hear like a little sponge. You love to tell us your colors, count to three & point and shout things as you notice them in the car or the store.
You love to copycat, especially Daddy and Grampa;; you are a man's man, litte one.
You have become my picky eater, overnight. I am not sure if it's the heat or the fact that you are afraid that your trucks might play without you, but getting you to eat has been a real challenge lately. I am hoping it goes just about as fast as it came! :)
You are still an awesome sleeper, taking a 2.5-3 hour nap in the afternoons and sleeping 10-12 hours at night. You are still in size 4 diapers and 18-24 month clothes, with some 2T. You have gotten very tall in the last few months.
As we continue to watch you grow and change into a little boy, Daddy and I couldn't be more proud of you. You are confident, super smart, friendly, polite and always smiling. We can't wait to see what else your future holds, little prince. We love you to the moon and back!

We heart rain days.
Tuesday = mower day. && one little boy who is glued to the front window for a half hour.
Thursday we had well baby checkup for Harrison, which brought lots of snuggles, because, well, shots = snuggles. :)
Friday we cleaned.

&& took a ride to watch Daddy move dirt.
Saturday we were able to head up to Coast Guard Festival with our friends and enjoy an adult night.
We had a couple of handsome captains!
It was a great night, the fireworks show was great as always, and we only got rain for about a half hour.
Sunday brought us some much neede R&R with our boys after a night apart...and time to prepare for another busy week.
