Chicago {spring break 2014}

Thursday, Sarah and I decided to take the train to Chicago for the day with our boys. I decided to leave Harrison home last minute, with Casey, for which I am very thankful.
Bentley and I had the perfect special day together!

We got up early and drove to Michigan City to get on the Metra, instead of Amtrak. Its much cheaper and it runs more often - considering we werent really sure how the boys would do we wanted a more flexible schedule than Amtrak could offer.
the boys were so excited to get on a real train for their first time!
It was a packed house, so we had to snuggle up, but all the boys did great for the whole ride.
We got off at Millenium Station, downtown and walked a few blocks towards a Rainforest Cafe for lunch.
We had to stop for a few photo ops, too! :)
Rainforest Cafe was a huge hit, the boys loved it, and ate great after their big walk and appetites they worked up!
posing by the elephants.
After that we decided to try our hand at learning the city bus system.
We knew we wanted to head to Navy Pier, but it was a 3 mile walk.
With the help of the iPad, Google, and a very sweet girl who was familiar with the bus routes, we safely boarded our first ever city bus, headed in the right direction!
We started at the children's museum at the pier - if you ever get a chance to go, I would highly recommend it. It was a great experience for us all, and we didn't even get through it all like we wanted!
found himself a skid steer. always working while playing! :)
digging for dinosaur fossils.
we grabbed a snack and took a break before we moved on. Bentley had his first ever Jamba Juice and Pirate's booty! :)
We headed to build a bear to let the boys build buddies to help commemorate their trip.
Bentley took his wish making pretty seriously.
Meet Sven, our newest friend, rocking his Navy Pier tshirt :)
After BAB we grabbed another bus and headed to millennium park to burn off the last of the boys' energy for the train ride home.
and we found the bean, and took the obligatory selfie, of course.
just holding it up, like a muscle man.
bestie selfie!
We took the 5:10 train home and were barely off it and into the car before Bentley fell asleep. It was a really big day for him but he did awesome and we had so much fun experiencing new things and making memories together! :) I look forward to going back again, and taking Harrison when he gets older!

While we were gone, Harrison stayed plenty busy himself.
Casey took him, along with some of her cousins to the critter barn.

He loves his Phillips girls!
Thanks Casey & Ally for loving on Harry for us while we spent our special day away! :) xoxo
